Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless Test: Without

The LTV A-7 Corsair II is an American carrier-capable subsonic light attack airplane developed and made by Ling-Temco-Vought (LTV). The A-7 was established throughout the early 1960s as substitute for the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk. Its design is obtained from the Vought F-8 Crusader; in contrast with the F-8, the A-7 is both smaller sized and also restricted to subsonic speeds, its airframe being less complex as well as more affordable to create. Complying with an affordable bid by Vought in action to the USA Navy's (USN) VAL (Heavier-than-air, Strike, Light) need, an initial contract for the kind was released on 8 February 1964. Development was fast, initial flying on 26 September 1965 as well as entering squadron solution with the USN on 1 February 1967; by the end of that year, A-7s were being deployed overseas for the Vietnam Battle. Originally adopted by USN, the A-7 verified attractive to various other services, quickly being taken on by the USA Flying Force (USAF) and the Air National Guard (ANG) to replace their aging Douglas A-1 Skyraider and North American F-100 Super Sabre fleets. Boosted models of the A-7 would certainly be created, commonly embracing much more effective engines as well as increasingly qualified avionics. American A-7s would certainly be used in various major disputes, consisting of the Intrusion of Grenada, Procedure El Dorado Canyon, as well as the Gulf War. The kind was likewise used to support the development of the Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk. The A-7 was likewise exported to Greece in the 1970s as well as to Portugal in the late 1980s. The USAF and USN chose to retire their staying instances of the kind in 1991, complied with by the ANG in 1993 and also the Portuguese Air Pressure in 1999. The A-7 was largely changed by newer generation competitors such as the General Dynamics F-16 Combating Falcon and also the McDonnell Douglas F/A -18 Hornet. The final driver, the Hellenic Flying force, took out the last A-7s during 2014.

* For a few months, Corsair has been particularly active on the headset segment rather turned to players. We have thus been able to test the ultra high-end brand with * Virtuoso RGB XT and more accessible models have also been proposed. The HS80 RGB Wireless that occupies us today is somehow halfway. Billed more or less 150 euros, it is clearly not the ring road of Mr. All-World, but we remain on a much more reasonable pricing than the virtuoso **, despite very comprehensive features.

Sobriety and elegance ... Turned by microphone pole

As usual, Corsair delivers a product to the design not only serious, but redoutably finished. The HS80 RGB Wireless is uniformly black with a mariture metal elements (few) and resistant plastics (the majority). Thus, the central cradle does not seem to have to rest on a metal base, but still manages to keep an excellent resistance without being too hard to put in place on the head. Very good job.

In a uncommon way, Corsair did not associate with foam. He used a species of foam-covered headband that gives a particular style to the helmet when it is not worn and confers a certain comfort once installed. As it is more and more often the case on this segment, the HS80 RGB Wireless has rotary hinges for the atria: the idea is to turn them to put the helmet on the shoulders and it also ensures also Some flexibility in the headphones position on the ears.

Corsair did not leave the thickness of the foam placed on the atria. We feel that the builder wants to make us understand that this is a quality product and, covered with a ventilated fabric, the foam is remarkably comfortable. Rare is the helmets to be so pleasant on the ears and we want it for proof that despite the relatively modest height of the atria - they rest a little on our pavilions - we have not been bothered more than that while, basic, We do not like the Supra-Aural at all.

Classic is the left atrium that serves as a control unit. Thus, there is the sound volume management knob and the headphone power / off button with a small LED to check the headphone activity. A USB-C plug is also present, but that's all and there is nothing more on the right atrium. No, you have not read: no mute button for the microphone and no plugs to connect the pole. Corsair actually opted for a perch integrated into the helmet that can be folded up (to cut the sound).

To do not hide anything, we are quite disappointed with this choice. First because such a pole is not what is more aesthetic. Then because it is not what is more practical and, question of taste, we prefer a real mute button to cut the sound without the need to take up the pole ... that despite its flexibility, it does not allow a very precise placement of the microphone in front of the mouth. Fortunately, you will see it, it does not affect the microphone capture.

Finally, finish this tour of the owner with a comment on accessories delivered by Corsair or rather on the lack of accessories. Nothing really serious, but the manufacturer does not offer for example no transportation bag or extra foams for its atria. In reality, it does not deliver two accessories perfectly indispensable: first there is the USB dongle that activates the 2.4 GHz connection and, then the USB-C cable that allows the charging of the helmet.

Audio rendering and microphone capture of excellent invoices

150 euros the helmet - even though it is wireless - it is not within the reach of everyone. We were therefore entitled to wait for a result at the height. Well, no need to last the suspense longer, Corsair does not get along the least in the world. The most demanding users will obviously find a descent into Range compared to the remarkable virtuoso , but there is really not much to blame him as much as the rare defects can be compensated software, we will come back.

First, we need to connect the helmet. Wireless mode - PC compatible, PS4 and PS5 recall it - goes through the USB dongle. No particular problem, the pairing is done very simply. We then take advantage of a maximum rendering in 24-bit / 48 kHz to oppose the 24-bit / 96 kHz offered in USB wired. Difficult to take advantage of this difference that says and in one case as in the other, the rendering is very satisfying with perhaps a small weakness on the high mediums which is also on the treble, less accurable, less convincing.

On the side of the grave or low mediums, until the voices of our favorite artists, it is an without-fault. Note, however, that the HS80 RGB Wireless has been designed for video game and accent has been more particularly on latency - which can lead to light compression artifacts. Nothing bad, but while the transducers are the same as on the Virtuoso , one feels a difference on a more musical listening posed. Of course, in full video game, while our attention is less worn on music, the thing goes out completely unnoticed.

There, it is more the spatialization of the sound that officiates and very beautiful way. Corsair relies on the Dolby Atmos, no doubt what is best, but it only concerns the PC: on PlayStation you have to settle for the Sony system, less efficient even though very correct. We are not the most experts of competitive FPS players and it could therefore be that specialists find it to complain about, but for our part, the position of the sound has seemed excellent. Just perhaps a downside when the enemies are closer to: the location then seemed a little less precise.

In order to accompany our adventures in multiplayer, Corsair therefore integrates a micro on foldable pole. There is no bottle, but it does not pose a particular problem and capture is a model of the genre. It will probably not be enough for professional streamers, but no one will criticize the rendering of your voice in multi. This will be very natural, precise and pleasant. The surrounding parasitic noises are not too present, but still avoid playing in a room too sound.

Two software for a very complete management

We have said it, the few defects recorded in the audio rendering of the HS80 RGB Wireless can be partially corrected with the accompanying software. As always, Corsair is actually resting on Icue, a convenient program with an ever more enjoyable interface for each new version. The app can have a small gas plant side as it gathers many features, but we find it up enough quickly.

The management of the Sound's equalization is one of the most interesting points to the extent that it will make it possible to restore a little vigor to the treble without distorting the sound and without forcing on the possibilities of the helmet. It is obviously possible to reduce a little loff expressivity. The software is also used to adjust the outer LEDs of the helmet. The HS80 RGB Wireless is a sober model, but two Corsair logos are present on the outside of the atria: their LEDs can be parameterized here. Alas, you can imagine, icie is only available on PC and its absence reduces the possibilities on PlayStation.

In addition, we also regret the presence of a second software, dedicated to the management of the Dolby Atmos. Nothing abnormal since Dolby has prepared his own interface and that, contractually, Corsair could not undoubtedly integrate the thing with his icie. Still, it is always a shame to install / use two software to handle a single device. Of course, the Dolby Atmos is not on the menu on PlayStation, the settings are those offered by Sony.

Finally, before concluding, a word on the wireless aspect of the product. We mentioned the simplissime connection via the USB dongle. Damage on the other hand that Corsair did not, in addition, offered Bluetooth compatibility. The manufacturer, however, took care to ensure wired operation. In addition, and when it evokes an autonomy of 20 hours with a single load, we have exceeded this value: LED cut and volume slightly below 50%, we note about 22 hours.

The wireless at the top of its shape on PC and PS4 / PS5

Forced, an entrance ticket to more or less 150 euros, it may cool more than one. Yet the HS80 RGB Wireless manages to justify its pricing first of all at a high quality audio rendering, even if we obviously remain a notch below Virtuoso signed Corsair too. A musical listening will bring out some light artifacts, but a videoludic use allows him to express himself perfectly. We take advantage of an exceptional rendering supported by Dolby Atmos compatibility, which is best for spatialization. To avoid spoiling, micro capture is impeccable and very correct autonomy. On PlayStation, we lose the Dolby Atmos and you have to do with a less complete software interface that makes the bill a little more indigestible, but we prefer to finish on the exceptional comfort of the atria and their softness quite incredible.
