How the video game Cities Skylines solved a serious problem on the Roads of Poland

Being within the sector or putting a minimum of interest in it, it is evident that video games have many functions beyond entertaining. Apart from their health and cognitive benefits, they are also used for external tasks. This is the case of some simulators that have served to build a road in conditions for the Polish government, as in the story that we are going to tell you.

We have seen the story through our colleagues from Xataka, but it was worth echoing. Mr. Piotr is passionate about infrastructure, so through his work on the Cities Skylines video game, he has asked and forced the Polish General Directorate of National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) to rectify the Kraków-Mistrzejowice project, infrastructure that seeks to connect the S7 and S52 highways, the eastern and northern bypasses of Krakow.

Upon seeing the project, the creative realized some inconsistencies and decided to use the popular city-builder to demonstrate that there were points for improvement, thus showing it to the estates visibly and transparently thanks to the video game.

Through the tools offered by the game, such as the simulations and the possibilities it provides, he pointed out the details that could be improved in the project, and that would end up causing problems for drivers in the area, including dangerous overtaking or risky points, of accidents or collisions. The video was uploaded a few months ago to YouTube and has exceeded 250,000 views.

Following the video's release, the GDDKiA commented that they had commissioned an analysis of the planning from one of the top experts at the Krakow University of Technology and that they would wait for the conclusion to see if any retouching was necessary. Two months later, the experts realized that Piotr was right and that there were some areas for improvement that, if left unresolved, would lead to bottlenecks. So they started a redesign of the project thanks to what this fan had built-in Cities Skylines.
